Take three – What if?
Posted: April 7, 2011I believe the Hebrew proverb that so many have quoted… “train up a child…” But what if there’s no one to show that child the way he should go? What if drugs and alcohol rule that child’s home? What if the child has no idea who his parents are? What if. . . ?
These are not simply hypothetical senarios today. This is the way things really are. Many children, whether from poverty or plenty are living in abusive situations without any clue as to the right way to go. Instead, they’re learning (by example) how to make all the wrong choices. They see their parents or grandparents ~ or the caregiver of the day ~ using …! Yes, using their money, their time and abilities ~ but unfortunately using them in all the wrong ways. And they’re using the precious children as well.
So, what can you and I do about the “What ifs”? Here are a few ideas: volunteer at a local youth club; start a DISCOVERY Club in a nearby trailer park; visit an inner-city Community Center and introduce the LifeTime Learning Curriculum; find a church that cares about the overlooked and underprivileged in your community.
Bottom line ~ You are part of the answer to my original question, “Should we feed the poor?” Yes! Give them a fish! Teach them to fish! And help them learn how to own a pond!!
Check out the Education link at the top of the page. Order a set of this curriculum, especially designed to teach at-risk kids and begin to be a part of the answer to all my questions! It will change your life, too.
